I remembered a few years ago, nung active pa ako sa mga karera, we just finished setting up the engine for my AE86, and we had to break it in 2 days bago mag-race. I was staying in Antipolo that time. So mga 10pm na namin natapos yon sasakyan, and we decided na mag-convoy at itakbo ng mga 500km, since that's all u need for a race engine talaga, not 1.5km like regular cars.
So the convoy went ahead, biyahe from Antipolo pababa ng Teresa, and onwards. Two cars kami bale, the other car (a Galant) was following me, sakay un mga mekaniko, with the spare parts, just in case... Target namin is Quezon province.
We were communicating by radio - Okay ang biyahe so far, maganda ang mga turns doon.. then we were passing through a loooooong stretch of road na walang ilaw, as in super dilim. On my left side was parang a small hill yata, and on the right, nothing but palayan. Di ko alam kung bakit walang street lights doon, may mga poste naman.
So biyahe pa rin kami, then I spotted a single stall with lights from afar, parang sari-sari store, so I radio'd my mechanics "Gutom na ba kayo? pahinga muna tayo doon sa tindahan". So sila naman, sunod din..
As we approached that "store", biglang taas ng balahibo ko. Nung malapit na talaga, nagtaka ako dahil un sign na may ilaw, walang nakasulat. Nung nasa tabi na namin, potek we realized na hindi pala store yon, kundi nagbebenta ng KABAONG!!!! It was around 2am na that time.
ayon, nasubukan ng husto yon kotse ko, sabay upak! hehehe.. Radio agad un mga mekaniko "chief! pagkain ang kailangan natin, hindi kabaong".. So I knew they saw it din. We were joking about it - pero grabe talaga kaba ko.
On the way back, we passed by the same road (by then, it was early morning na). Imagine un kaba ko when I passed through that WHOLE stretch of road, but NEVER SAW that "store" na! I radio'd back and asked them "nakita niyo yon nagtitinda ng kabaong?", and they told me hindi din daw nila nakita, inaabangan nga daw nila pero wala.
Dunno what happened that night, but it stuck to me like crazy glue ever since - kakatakot.. Amoy pa namin yon parang bulaklak ng patay as we approached that "store". "Sarap" daw ng simoy ng hangin, ni-radio sa akin, sabay biglang "bakit amoy calachuchi??"... hehehe..
